DIFFERENT WAYS TO GIVE

STOCKS + MUTUAL FUNDS

You might be surprised to learn that donating stocks or mutual funds to Tulsa Boys’ Home can actually have a greater tax benefit than simply making a donation with a check or credit card. The reason?   If stocks or mutual funds you have held more than a year have increased in value, you may want to consider a gift of these assets, rather than cash.  By transferring ownership of your long-term stock to Tulsa Boys’ Home, you make a gift to support our mission, avoid the capital gains tax you would pay if the stock were sold, and you may claim a charitable income tax deduction for the current fair market value of the asset.

Stocks and Mutual Funds are easy to donate:

To transfer stock/mutual funds from your brokerage account to Tulsa Boys’ Home, simply instruct your broker to electronically transfer your securities out of your account into the Tulsa Boys’ Home Raymond James Account.

Please contact our brokerage agent Todd Lang, Vista Investment Partners, 918.619.9337, or todd.lang@vistainvestment.com prior to the transfer so that they know to expect the transfer and for further details.

RETIREMENT PLANS

You can help young boys who are at-risk by making a donation from part of your 401k, 403b, IRA, pension, or other tax-deferred plan. In addition, this form of gift can often hold greater tax benefits than making a cash donation. If you are 70 ½ or older, it’s time to think about the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA account or inherited IRA.

Consider gifting your RMD amount and investing in the mission of Tulsa Boys' Home.

To make a gift from your Required Minimum Distribution: Since funds accumulated in a traditional IRA are pre-tax, the withdrawal of your RMD will be subject to income tax. You can avoid the tax by making a direct transfer of all or a portion of your RMD, up to $100,000 to Tulsa Boys' Home. That’s right — you will not pay federal or state income tax on a direct transfer of your RMD to Tulsa Boys' Home, but you will be making a difference in the lives of our boys.
