Volunteer Groups Enhance TBH!
Tulsa Boys' Home is very appreciative of the three wonderful groups dedicated to the mission of Tulsa Boys' Home.
Women's Association of Tulsa Boys' Home
Known as the "Buttercups", Mrs. Pearl Waters and five of her friends provided butter for the boys beginning in 1938. In addition to providing butter, they took over several other functions, from baking breads and cookies, to soliciting funds to liquidate a mortgage on the Home. By the end of the 1940s they were major contributors of energy and influence in capital fund-raising campaigns.
Over the years, Tulsa Boys' Home came to depend on the importance of the roles and functions of these volunteer women. It was suggested that the group be formalized and be called the "Women's Association". This group continues to play a significant role in the life of the agency.
Members have been involved in all aspects of Tulsa Boys' Home - from providing food and clothing in the early years and today, to raising monies for expansion and contributing to the special events. Their special interest has been building and grounds maintenance, including the furnishings and decorations of the campus facilities. Today's members consistently help with towels, socks, and underwear, as well as special needs for the kitchen, holiday items for the boys, and more.
Information concerning membership in the Women's Association is available from the Membership Chair or the President of the organization. Call Kathy Nannie at 231-3853.
Members are nominated and elected, agree to pay a small membership fee, and serve in various capacities that benefit the boys at Tulsa Boys' Home. The organization has had over 200 members at times and currently has approximately 80 active members.
The Women's Association was nominated for the JC Penney Golden Rule Award in 1998.
Junior Women's Association
Shortly after the formation of the Women's Association, Pearl Waters helped form the Junior Women's Association, or the "Junior Women" as they are called, with the purpose of contributing to the mental and physical well-being of the boys.
Since their beginning, Junior Women have given of their love, time, talents, and resources to Tulsa Boys' Home. In the 1950s, they organized a Christmas card sales program that continues today. In addition, in 2004 they launched the inagural 3 v. 3 "Above the Rim" basketball tournament. Through these fundraisers, the Junior Women contribute in a variety of significant ways to the needs of Tulsa Boys' Home.
Junior Women help provide food and clothing, organize holiday parties and hand-pick gifts for the boys, visit the lodges once a month for special activites and/or outings, and more. Some of the activities include pumkin carving, holdiday decorating, sporting events, bowling, and many other activities.

The Nicholas Club
The Nicholas Club began helping the boys of Tulsa Boys' Home in 1948. Named after the patron saint of children, Saint Nicholas, they began their service by lending a hand to the Tulsa Children's Home. Soon after, they formed a relationship with TBH that has spanned over 50 years!
The "Nics" help TBH by participating with the agency's recreational therapy program. Approximately 10 - 20 members go to TBH twice a month and bring pizza, play sports games, and visit with the boys. Quite often, they even take them to sporting events such as a Tulsa Driller's baseball game or going bowling.
